74th Emmys 2022

Hello Charlie worked alongside production partners Done & Dusted and production designer Florian Wieder to develop a visual language for the 2022 Emmys. This years set design was inspired by the panoramic viewing gallery of a luxury members club. Using this basis we created a series of environments and backdrops that extended the visual immersion to compliment this years production design.

Design Development. Using a combination of bespoke high resolution photography and specially shot plates of Los Angeles we generated a vision through glass plate frames that extended the illusion of a luxury members club. The house looks created a visual cohesion throughout the show. It enabled the clear sign posting of content allowing the brand to become a backdrop for the show, displaying the nomination package material while the guests were immersed within the developing environments.

Immersive Content. The gigantic 50K screen real estate of this years show allowed for a unique continuous and immersive visual canvas. Through the show we created a series of set pieces that would transport the guests through many custom animated environments. From the mountains of the Sierra Nevada to the Hills of Springfield we created a number of immersive custom built backdrops that would help the audience travel through a year of television.

Performances. The show began with a large scale musical performance piece and it played homage to a whole host of familiar television properties from Friends through to Game Of Thrones. Each of the shows required bespoke animated sound responsive design built to echo the shows existing IP whilst conforming to this uniquely wide canvas. Working closely with the production team and the studios themselves we created a number of bespoke immersive sequences that extended and enhanced the on stage physical performance.

Virtual Production. Along side the curation and creation of the bespoke immersive environments we worked closely with Director Hamish Hamilton to develop a unique live moment that featured the iconic Simpsons characters Homer and Mo. Using pre visualised cameras based on the set design we created a sequence of shots that would be used by the Simpsons team to animate the choreographed moment.
