Inside Our Autistic Minds – ANTON

After extensive collaboration and design processes with the series director and producers, along with Chris and the autistic individuals, we created four individual, personal and unique short films on behalf of Anton, Ethan, Flo and Murray, visually and audibly channelling each of their interior worlds. They were then revealed by Chris to their families and friends, showing how they really felt inside and what’s really going inside their autistic minds.

Anton has a reliance on routine, and any change dramatically impacts his life.

He finds it difficult to deal with any change and surprise in his daily routine, timing each day to the exact second. Anton had spent most of his adult life trying to keep this side of his autistic experience hidden away, but wanted his family, friends and his five-a-side football team to understand why unexpected changes to his routine really matter to him.

Anton’s film showed his journey travelling to his scheduled football game one evening. However, a hold up enroute and a change in plan with the match shows how devastating even the smallest detail of change can effect him.

We designed the film to cross a tightly weaved graphic language based on Anton’s use of specific music and exact time keeping, against experimental and visceral artistic depictions of Anton’s mind reacting to unscheduled change as the evening plays out.

Estimates suggest there could be as many as 700,000 autistic people in the UK.
