President’s Cup Final

At the 45th UAE President’s Cup final the pitch was transformed into a massive projection surface and laser canvas. The projection focused on the pitch while the lasers animated from the pitch into the seated crowd.

For synchronicity we art directed the animation for both the projection and laser content to create a continuity of movement and animation style between the two different types of media.

The key aim of the creative was to engage and entertain with a spectacular light show using complex projection mapping perspective techniques, creature animation and laser light coordination.

It was important to draw upon narrative elements from the UAE’s cultural and natural heritage, as well as delight fans with content of the players, the teams and the new ball. The collaborative pre-production storyboard process was imperative to establish a cohesive narrative structure, creating continuity and flow throughout the sequences.

A key message was to show the importance of the UAE’s natural heritage and its connection to the sea. The Arabian Gulf’s most iconic sea creatures were rigged and animated to create beautiful synchronised radial formations in time to the empowering soundtrack.

Using visual themes of circularity throughout the sequence, the team brought prominence to the projection’s central pitch location. Light emanating from a central point added a uniform, kaleidoscopic beauty to the piece.

The narrative concludes with the young boy from the show’s films appearing on the pitch, placing this year’s ball on a plinth which triggers our animated ball to burst into life.

Using an ideal perspective of 17.5° tilt, we used the illusion of perspective to create a 3D ball bouncing and multiplying to the electrifying soundtrack.
