Parenthood

Filmed over three years across six continents, Parenthood is a powerful five-part natural history series for BBC1 and iPlayer. The series explores the extraordinary strategies and ingenious tricks that animals parents employ to give their young a head start in life, capturing never-before-seen behaviours and revealing the joy and drama of animal parenthood in a constantly changing world.  We created the title sequence, branding, and VFX satellite shots for the series.

Collaborating again with Silverback Films, this unique and challenging project allowed us to conceptualise and craft a ‘continuous-shot’ sequence for the series opening titles, along with the series branding and diverse range of stunning VFX satellite views that required a seamless integration into the episode narratives.

Our conceptual opening sequence visualises the origins and development of new life, using a circular motif to evoke the sense of a life form gradually growing and evolving. The sequence builds toward a striking finale, where Earth and the series logo converge in a moment of unified motion.  To achieve the series’ distinct opening title we combined specially shot cellular-level time-lapse, visual effects, and 3D CGI. This fusion created an organic, in-camera aesthetic that guides viewers on a visual journey from the first spark of life through cellular division to embryonic formation. The sequence culminates in the formation of Earth, with a seamless final reveal of the series logo.

We love using VFX globes to bring stories to life. Each globe is crafted with meticulous attention to detail, designed to inform while inspiring awe. For the Parenthood series, we created globes that visualised everything from kelp degradation and forest fires to shifting weather systems. The result was a cinematic storytelling tool that added depth and clarity without distracting from the narrative. Working closely with the series directors and producers, we ensured each globe seamlessly supported the creative vision of the show.
